Almost completely cured my hayfever, but at a high price. I have suffered from hayfever since my youth. I was always told that i'd grow out of it but never did. Since 2000 i'd been using large hepa filters in my flat during the summers, one in each room. On bad days closing the windows and turning on the filters gave a lot of relief but never completely eliminated the hayfever.
On good days the hayfever would disappear while indoors but would soon return on going outside, so i still needed to use antihistamines daily. In spring 2010 i bought three airfree p125 air purifiers. It was a bit of a gamble, as although i'd read a lot of good things about them on the web everything seemed to be either a review written by a zealot claiming that they worked unlikely sounding miracles or an article sponsored by the manufacturer or a seller. 2010 was my first summer in more than 30 years when i didn't have hayfever. I have now had four summers without hayfever.
I know this sounds nuts but i have bought several high end air filtration / purification systems and they are all motorised with fans and hepa filters etc. And compared to this they are rubbish. I just don't get how this works.
It sits there doing apparently nothing. The side of the box shows a graph with particulates (pollen, pet dander etc. ) dropping heavily by week2 and virtually eliminated by week4. There's no fans, moving parts or anything it just sits there. Yet make no mistakle whatsoever it is waaay more effective.
Pros
- My home smells of nothing.
- Surprisingly good BUT
- Pricey but works
- Airfree P40 air purifier
- Not quite as advertised, in my opinion.
- Can't tell whether it is doing anything!
Cons
- Gets rid of smells/toxinsreplaces them with its own.
- absolute rip off
Negative Review of GROBAG Airfree 55
Gets rid of smells/toxinsreplaces them with its own. . First and foremost let me state this; it probably does do what it says, probably great at that. Design flaw or just cheapness?.Yes, a design flaw brought on by cheapness.
They skimpt on the outer layer and bit where the sterilised hot air comes out by making it out of plastic, and the plastic top heats up creating a hot/burning plastic smell, which wafts around. Now, i don't know about anyone else, but the smell of constant hot plastic is worse than the stuff i'm trying to get rid of. By cheaping out the benefit of using this device is almost cancelled out by itself. Will you benefit from this device?. It likely does what it says, as long as you can put up with the constant hot/burning plastic smell.

Pricey But Works. There is one important thing you should do with this product and that is be patient. It is hard telling at first if it works but i had to move houses after having it in my room for nearly 2 month. When i moved to my new place there was a bit of a damp smell but after a week or so it disappeared and i never ever sneeze or cough in my room, it feels fresh. Now when i visit my parents i go into the room where i had this item in and you can tell the air isn't as fresh in there any more without it. Had this item been not so so pricey i'd so recommend it for our office at work which seems always full of bacteria and people getting ill! shame it's so expensive. With that said, it is definitely good to invest in one for health reasons and just having a fresher home. .
Airfree P40 Air Purifier. Really pleased with this product, in fact that pleased that i bought another one. I have recently developed a pet allergy so was looking for a product to help with my breathing. This has definitely helped and i can breathe a lot easier now. People have also commented on how fresh and light the air feels when they walk into the room. Although pricey i would definitely recommend it if you don't want to have to mess around replacing or washing filters and the unit is silent so if you want it in the bedroom there is no noise to disturb your sleep. The p40 does come with a blue 'night' light but you can easily turn it off by just moving the switch on the bottom of the unit. .
Not Quite As Advertised, In My Opinion.. This item was advertised as removing cigarette smoke from a room, which is why i bought it. In the instructions it does say to keep all windows closed but that does not work. I find it necessary to have a window open and also a large fan blowing as well and even then, it does not clear the smoke smell completely. For the price, i would say dont buy if you need it primarily to clear cigarette smoke as its expensive and there are better, cheaper alternatives out there. I've had it since august 2010 and leave it on 24/7 - so quite a good test i think. .

Conclusion of GROBAG Airfree 55
Cleans the air in the whole of my 1 bed flat, the thing i noticed first is the difference in smell of my flat when arriving home, days before the p125 my flat smelt of my pet, cooking and a hard to put a name to it but it just smelt, now it smells of nothing. If it ever stopped working i would buy again. I no longer have itchy eyes or coughs, which used to annoy me as i had no trouble with this during my day at work. I bought this product as i'd tried everything else and our bedroom still smelled of mould. So i have no reason to believe that the basic principle of a high temperature heater with ceramic shielding in a neat box which uses convection currents to 'sanitise' the air is a bad idea. Secondly, the heating element is extremely hot initially with hot (rather than the warm air suggested) coming out of the top of the unit. As many people will have an initial experience of a machine that actually makes their room smell worse. Plastic fumes are simply not acceptable from such a product but oddly they're not uncommon from so-called air purifiers. For the money you can't help but feel they could have produced a lightweight metal (aluminium perhaps?) product that looked better and didn't give nasty plastic odors during its first few days of use.
There isn't any readout for example to give you an insight into the volume of air it has purified. So surprisingly enough, i'd buy another one of these as it actually works.
Had this item been not so so pricey i'd so recommend it for our office at work which seems always full of bacteria and people getting ill. People have also commented on how fresh and light the air feels when they walk into the room. This item was advertised as removing cigarette smoke from a room, which is why i bought it. This purifier works a treat, it stopped my son coughing all night within 48 hours, stopped me from coughing all day within 48 hours. It is intended to be a stationary item, (ie, not to be moved from place to place), for maximum benefit, but, at this price, you have to buy one & move it around to see what benefits you gain from it, and the benefits are easy to see.
Of england, among others) this is a must have (even if you have to sell the dog to pay it), ask for it as a christmas present from your parents/grandparents/inlaws anyone, but get onei cannot recommend it highly enough, it's fantastic, and i shall be purchasing more (as soon as i can afford it), as, ideally, you'd need one in every room, not all of this size though, they do come in smaller (and cheaper forms). The wall was repaired but there was still a stale smell in the room and we worried that there could be mould spores still in the air. Since 2000 i'd been using large hepa filters in my flat during the summers, one in each room. On bad days closing the windows and turning on the filters gave a lot of relief but never completely eliminated the hayfever.
However, i no longer suffer from hayfever at all at work or when i go out in the evenings. Unless by some amazing coincidence i actually did grow out of my hayfever the very year that i bought the airfree devices i'd say that they have ended my hayfever misery and made a huge difference to my summer quality of life. They are essentially just a low power ceramic heating element which channels air through by convection, heating it up enough to destroy any biological particles. If you had to put one in each room of a family sized house the cost would be prohibitive for many people, and until you'd actually done it you probably wouldn't even be sure whether or not the airfree purifiers were going to work for you.
Given that they have no moving parts (in the air purifying bits of the device) they should be extremely reliable, but one of my three p125s died in 2013 after being on since i bought it in 2010. I know this sounds nuts but i have bought several high end air filtration / purification systems and they are all motorised with fans and hepa filters etc. I was so dissapointed not to see it doing something or working or making a noise i swapped it out for a fan/ion based filer system and i noticed the difference with a couple of days. No probelems now i use this air purifier. The airfree air sterilizer improved the air quality dramatically and the peak flow measures showed an improvement too.
We got this because we live in a basement flat in central london and there was always so much dust in the air, it was making us cough and sneeze. There is a plastic smell for the first day or two but it isn't particularly offensive and disappears after that time. I have quite bad dust allergies and so thought an air purifier would help. There is a smell associated with it, but i think it's a smell of cleanliness. At first i regretted buying such an expensive thing because work dried up soon after buying it.
I haven't even told my family what it does or how it works but my children say the air smells better and that bad smells don't linger. I leave my air purifier permanently switched on in my bedroom. Breathing purified/ sterilized air overnight has made me feel much better in the morning.
Beggars Belief .. I know this sounds nuts but i have bought several high end air filtration / purification systems and they are all motorised with fans and hepa filters etc. Etc. And compared to this they are rubbish. I just don't get how this works. It sits there doing apparently nothing. I was so dissapointed not to see it doing something or working or making a noise i swapped it out for a fan/ion based filer system and i noticed the difference with a couple of days. For the worst !!! so i swapped them around again. If you're a bloke you're going to be dissapointed. You won't seeing anything happening at all. However give it two weeks and you will sleep and breathe far easier. It's great, i'll be buying another soon. .
I buy one 10-pack of 8-hour antihistamines each year, more for security than out of necessity, and in the autumn i throw most of them in the bin. I do still get a few sniffles if i'm away from home for several days, so i'm not completely cured. I also still use the hepa filters occasionally and keep the windows closed much of the time during the summer. The downside to the airfree purifiers is their ridiculous cost (£240 for the p125 model). They are essentially just a low power ceramic heating element which channels air through by convection, heating it up enough to destroy any biological particles. The airflow is so low that even airfree say it takes many hours to clear a room. They probably won't be very effective unless you have one in each room (as i do), and if your allergens come from outdoors then opening a window is likely to negate any beneficial effect they're providing. In my case i only had to put one in three rooms. It was worth it for me as the hayfever has almost gone completely and that is something i would have paid a lot of money for. I replaced it with a slightly more powerful p150. .
